FT- Permanent Engineer Lead - Mechanical

Salary Range: AUD 120,000 and above

Our client is a leading international provider of project management, engineering and consultancy services to the resources and infrastructure industries.
It’s group consists of four business units;

  • Results-focused consultancy providing Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) services to the mining, minerals and energy resource sector,
  • Production automation specialist, providing “Intelligent Production” control and information management solutions for optimal plant throughput and “Increased Asset Utilisation”,
  • Safety and Training Services to the resource, construction and manufacturing industries. Safety Services delivers safety services in affiliation with its fully owned safety provider, Safety & Rescue Australia, and
  • Provider of rail engineering, project management and operational support services to the resources and transport industries.

OVERALL JOB OBJECTIVE

Works within a small team to plan, direct and coordinate activities for the Brockman 4 Phase 3 project, which prepares clear, complete and accurate working plans and detailed design and engineering for mechanical and piping areas or facilities of one or more areas as assigned by the Area Manager – Dry Plant or delegate allocated to ensure that goals or objectives of the project are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters. Primary areas of the project deliverables relate to the following key scope items of this project; New construction camps. Temporary EPCM facilities. Temporary Facilities and services. Rolling stock maintenance workshops and warehouse facility upgrades New rolling stock facilities Associated support services for new facilities. This position reports to the Area Manager – Dry Plant.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the development of systems and procedures to ensure all mechanical engineering elements of studies and projects comply with statutory and regulatory requirements, and company policies and practices.
  • Develop systems and procedures to ensure all mechanical engineering elements of the project comply with conditions and parameters set out in project scopes of works and design criteria.
  • Leads a team of design engineers to develop design inputs and concept into completed design deliverables.
  • Where design engineers are not assigned or available, the responsibilities of the design engineer will be carried out by the senior / lead engineer.
  • Engineering and producing system / layout designs from conceptual to basic and detail engineering phases, ensuring designs are safe to construct, operate and maintain.
  • Calculation of costs, and assist in determining feasibility of projects based on analysis of collected data, and / or previous studies.
  • Develop and maintain standard specifications and drawings, with the aid of design engineers and design drafters, ensuring that project specific requirements are incorporated.
  • Develop the detailed project engineering schedule for the area of responsibility.
  • Develop, or assist in developing, the engineering man-hour budget relevant to the area of responsibility, and allocation against discrete work packages.
  • Addresses variances from engineering man-hour budget relevant to the area of responsibility.
  • Assignment of work and priorities to design engineers, and monitoring of progress against plan.
  • Monitoring and assist reporting of overall team design progress and forecasts.
  • Liaison with other discipline lead engineers, lead design drafter(s), and sub-consultants, to ensure optimal design outcomes, and coordinated and efficient design efforts.
  • Conduct discipline review and checking of design engineers’‘ work to ensure correctness and completeness, and compliance with all standards, codes and other regulatory and project requirements, and provide corrected solutions if necessary.
  • Conduct, in conjunction with other discipline lead engineers where required, other design reviews including formal reviews.
  • Ensure that technical evaluation of tenders, including resolution of discrepancies or deviations from issued technical specifications are adequately verified and in line with project requirements, and making technical recommendations to procurement for award of packages.
  • Evaluates and inspects sub-consultant and vendor work-in-progress, and field installations to monitor progress and ensure compliance with design intent.
  • Ensure shop detail drawings are adequately checked for compliance with design intent.
  • Implements process and mechanical equipment design and selection.
  • Prepares and retains custodianship of project equipment specifications and standards.
  • Ensure that design tasks, activities, and deliverables are formatted, progressed, checked, reviewed, completed, and distributed in accordance with standard Calibre and project requirements, procedures, and systems.
  • Collation and maintenance of the discipline design file to ensure inclusion of all relevant calculations, models, simulations and research notes.
  • Provide design documents and calculations for approval by the Principal Engineer.
  • Development, maintenance, and timely distribution of current project working lists and documents (line list, pipe and valve list, equipment list, deliverables list, etc.).
  • Provide technical support during other project activities such as fabrication and supply, construction, and commissioning.
  • Mentoring graduate engineers.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of ten (10) years engineering design and consulting experience in the heavy mining and minerals processing industry (commercial building and mine camp experience will be highly regarded), including experience in the team leadership, supervision and mentoring of other engineers.
  • Membership of the Professional Institute of Engineers.
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen in the engineering and construction environment.
